Kian Hyatt
Bassoon
Kian Hyatt is the second bassoonist of the Knox-Galesburg Symphony and performs regularly as a substitute with orchestras throughout the region. She was a two-time winner of the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra’s Young Artist Competition and soloed with the orchestra in Mozart’s Bassoon Concerto in B-flat at age 18. At 16, she appeared on NPR’s From the Top, performing Telemann’s Sonata in F minor.
She studied at the Cleveland Institute of Music from ages under Barrick Stees, Assistant Principal Bassoonist of The Cleveland Orchestra. While there, she performed in a woodwind quintet and bassoon quartet, appearing in concerts and outreach performances throughout the Cleveland area.
Recent solo engagements include fundraising recitals in support of the Sound Conservatory, demonstrating her ongoing commitment to music education and community outreach.
Currently, she is pursuing a Master’s degree in Bassoon Performance at the University of Iowa, where she studies with Benjamin Coelho.
