Kian Hyatt

Bassoonist Kian Hyatt performs across orchestral, chamber, and new-music settings. She holds the second bassoon chairs of the Knox-Galesburg Symphony and Quad City Opera and performs regularly with orchestras across the region. She has appeared as a guest artist in the St. Ambrose University Faculty Concert Series and at the 2026 IDRS Mid-North Symposium, where she performed Miguel del Aguila’s Malambo with string quintet.

As an advocate for new repertoire, she has collaborated with composers Robert Gross and Innocent Okechukwu, each of whom has written works for her, including a concerto for bassoon and string orchestra, a bassoon duet, and a set of pieces for bassoon and piano. Kian is an active teacher and clinician, maintaining a private studio and leading bassoon clinics in area high schools. She is completing a Master of Music at the University of Iowa with Benjamin Coelho, having earlier studied with Barrick Stees at the Cleveland Institute of Music.
